A Northern California mother is under arrest for allegedly leaving her two small children in the car while she went to a bar.
Mendocino County Sheriff’s Capt. Kurt Smallcomb says 24-year-old Bess Sanderson was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of child endangerment and willful cruelty to children.
Smallcomb says a hotel worker found Sanderson’s children, a 4-month-old and a 2-year-old, minimally clothed inside an unlocked car around 10:20 p.m. behind a Mendocino bar.
The worker put the children in an unoccupied hotel room after trying to find their parent. Sheriff’s deputies eventually found Sanderson, who told them her kids were alone in the car for 10 to 15 minutes as she went looking for a friend at two bars and had one drink.
The children have been placed in protective custody.
