Wyclef Jean is putting his money where his mouth is! He confirmed today that he is indeed running for president of his home country of Haiti. The singer confirmed the news to Time.com, saying he will be running in the November 28th election this year.
Wyclef was born in Port-au-Prince but moved to New York City when he was young. But he never forgot his roots, and stepped up big time after the horrific earthquake that ravaged the country earlier this year.
He admits that’s what drove him to put his hat in the running. “If not for the earthquake, I probably would have waited another 10 years before doing this,” he said. “If I can’t take five years out to serve my country as President…then everything I’ve been singing about, like equal rights, doesn’t mean anything.”
