Booty Calls On The Rise

RESEARCHER STUDIES “BOOTY CALLS”

Evolutionary psychologist Peter Jonason of the University of South Alabama wants it made clear that he did not get taxpayer money for his research into the “booty call.” But he says he has learned a lot about the phenomenon of commitment-phobic men and lonely women who make themselves available to them for sex.

He says booty calls are on the rise, partly because they’re less expensive in a recession than marriage or dating, but mostly because of increasing self-centeredness and narcissism, as evidenced by people wanting to star in reality shows and give themselves unique names like “Fantasia.” And there’s not a lot of handholding or cuddling in booty call relationships. Participants try to avoid emotional attachments and they usually last only about three months, although people sometimes try for a booty call with someone they haven’t seen in years.
